Jasmine Bee

Forest Honey is a 100% organic pure honey. This honey is made by wild African bees in the pristine forest reserves of Tanzania. It’s pure and contains no preservatives or additives.

Jasmijn Bleijerveld and Danstan Kabialo founded Jasmine Bee in 2015 with the aim to create an organic Tanzanian Honey brand of exclusive quality to sell for premium prices. It is the vision of the company to see remote Tanzanian communities live with a higher standard of living and exist in balance with the natural flora and fauna through the sustainable use of natural resources.

Jasmijn is raised in the tropics and as a little girl already understood these rainforest were in trouble. When moving to Tanzania in 2012 she combined her love for natural foods and concern for he environment to create a social environmental business that helps preserve the ancestral forests and create a long-term livelihood for the local communities as well as feed the insatiable appetite of the growing group of conscious consumers with sustainably and ethically produced honey.

Danstan is from a rural village (name) on the boarder Mkomazi National Park, that is still the home to some of Africa’s last black rhino’s in the wild. As a kid he did competitions with his friends on who is best in honey hunting and finding eatable berries, Oysternuts, seeds and mushrooms for the family dinner. His dream is to full-time travel the country and to teach remote communities how to make a living from forest products.

Tanzania suffers from one of the highest rates of deforestation, a decrease of 1.1% per year of the total forested area, caused by the unsustainable demand, the use of charcoal and the expansion of farming land into forest areas. The founders started Jasmine Bee to contribute to stopping non-sustainable land-use practices and to help conserve the environment by developing a commercial beekeeping supply chain that depends on the vitality of the forest, and thus will encourage rural communities to protect their environment.

What Jasmine Bee does

It is Jasmine Bee's objective to overcome local environmental challenges by accessing the commercial opportunities of sustainably exploiting natural forest resources, in this case honey and beeswax, and to respond to the growing demand for quality bees’ products in Europe and other parts of the world. To achieve theobjective:

  1. Jasmine Bee first builds and empowers the Tanzanian Honey Industry, through eliminating systemic failures, trains beekeepers on best practices and focuses on value chain development. The company stimulates pro-activeness and business mentality of each individual beekeeper in order to grow responsibility and stimulate ownership of their own beekeeping business.
  2. Jasmine Bee participates in the Tanzanian Honey Market and acts as intermediary between the International Honey Market and the beekeepers as the company buys their bees’ products for fair prices to resell to (honey) traders, catering to wholesale chains and organic food manufactures on the domestic and International Market.

The two-pronged approach of capacity building and trading makes the business unique. It enables the entrepreneurs to build relationships with the producers, impose their own high quality standards to the production and receive high prices for honey and beeswax. Part of the profit will be re-invested in community projects.
