About Germany
The food industry is one of the biggest industry sectors in Germany. The food product market is characterized by stiff competition, which stimulates food companies to remain innovative while producing and offering high quality food products at reasonable prices. Decisions must always be based on the demands of the consumer. These challenges ensure that the food industry stays innovative and consumer-oriented, and is an interesting partner for international food industries to share experiences with. Additionally, we have a reputation for producing high quality products and equipment, which are greatly appreciated in other countries.

Business culture characteristics:

  • distinct (formal) way of working, including prescribed rules, strict (time)schedules and targets
  • expected to wear very formal attire at work
  • characterized by innovation, productivity and quality
  • one of the world’s largest exporters (exports account for more than one third of the national output)

Personal note:
After my previous studies (German Post-Graduate Diploma in Nutrition and Home Economics), I decided to expand my knowledge in the field of food safety, as there is a growing concern about the safety of food products due to several food scares (e.g. BSE) and other food safety issues like GM crops. With the MSc Food Safety program, WUR offers an interesting and challenging program that combines the opportunity to gain a strong technical background with the necessary theoretical knowledge to manage food safety. WUR not only enjoys a strong reputation, it also brings together people from all over the world with different cultural and professional backgrounds.

During my university education I have gained theoretical and practical knowledge with a special focus on food microbiology. My studies have provided me with a sound knowledge of different techniques and materials, their application and use. Also in the fields of quality and food safety management as well as food law, I improved my understanding and practical know-how through my involvement in several projects, assignments and case studies.

By joining the Food Valley Ambassador Program I am sure that I will not only be able to improve and apply my knowledge in practice, but also to expand my network in the international food industry. Sharing knowledge in such a network is an important way to get the best out of new ideas and projects. I am sure this program will provide the necessary impulse to start my own career in the food industry. I expect a challenging, diverse year with significant benefits in all areas.
