Who we are and what we do

With over 20.000 members in more than a hundred countries and 800 universities AIESEC is the biggest international student organisation. We aim to contribute to the development of our participating countries and members. For more than 60 years we have enabled companies to employ international academics for a period of 2 to 12 months for a traineeship. These academics are in the last phase of their studies and they have the specific knowledge to solve intellectual or practical problems that are relevant to your company.

The Life Science Network
In the period after its foundation, AIESEC focussed mainly on trainees with backgrounds in economy, management and human resource. Nowadays we have trainees with a broad range of backgrounds. In the ‘Gelderse Vallei’ region, as in many other regions in the world, a lot of companies focus on agricultural, biogenetic or food related topics. The University of Wageningen also has mainly Life Science studies. To improve our service to companies but also to students, AIESEC Wageningen has founded the Life Science Network (LSN). The LSN creates a network between life science students and life science companies all over the world. Currently we cooperate with countries like Australia, Brazil, France, Sweden and Australia and we are moving towards partnerships with even more countries. Contacts within the LSN are more personal and through these contacts we can find trainees with the specific background your company is looking for. Everything is possible! The LSN enables us to find more life science students from all over the world and through the LSN we can realize even more traineeships in the branch of industry that is most relevant to our region.

The AIESEC Process

  1. Selection
The company gives a detailed job description and describes the required skills and backgrounds of the student. Within a month we will propose at least three suitable students. It’s up to the company to select the student that is most suitable for the job. Job interviews by telephone are possible of course.
  2. Preparation for the traineeship
AIESEC facilitates trainings and workshops for our trainees to prepare them for working and living in a different culture. AIESEC also arranges all logistics such as visa and housing.
  3. Reception
AIESEC takes care of the reception and support of the trainee in the Netherlands. We pick our trainees up from the airport, we organize activities for them, we accompany them to their first day of work, etc. We also support our trainees with arranging all formalities such as getting a sofinumber and bank account.
  4. Evaluation
There are two moments of evaluation between the student, AIESEC and the company. One a month after the trainee has started and one just before the trainee leaves. We continually want to improve our service and if any problem might occur AIESEC is there for support.
