It is easy to see why Food Valley can claim to be an international knowledge cluster in the agro-food and life sciences fields. In the Food Valley region, which hinges on Wageningen and Wageningen University and Research Center, many people work in research and technological development. They study food technology, food safety, health and renewable raw materials. Others are researching genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, DNA chip technology, biopharmaceutics, degradable biopolymers...

Renowned businesses such as Nutreco, NIZO Food Research, Friesland Foods, Campina, Keygene, DMV, TNO, Heinz, Givaudan and Danone have important branches in the Food Valley region. Enterprises such as DSM, Unilever, Avebe, Cargill and Nestlé have direct or indirect ties with Food Valley and other firms in the region.

The right (knowledge) infrastructure
The proximity of Wageningen University and Research Center and other research institutes is key, but being within an hour’s drive of two international airports and the port of Rotterdam makes Food Valley the place to be for entrepreneurs.
